In a press release earlier this week, Comcast Corporation (NAS:CMCSA) announced a new agreement with Vonage Holdings Corporation (NYSE:VG) which establishes a direct line of communication between the VoIP company and the cable giant. This cooperation should help identify and address issues that users may experience when using Vonage’s VoIP service over Comcast’s cable network. The move underscores the power that consumers have in driving relationships between competitors to enhance their service delivery.
Various reports have theorized that Comcast limited the bandwidth of its customers when using Vonage phone service. Although these reports have been unsubstantiated, and this weeks press release did not confirm or refute the claims, Comcast has previously indicating that it would curb overuse for it’s top (ab)users. Of particular note is that Comcast offers a competing service to Vonage.
